All around Feld am See there are hundreds of possibilities to discover something new. Panoramic roads, museums, cable cars, viewing towers, boat rides - the choice is wide. In our Morgenpost morning newsletter, you receive daily trip suggestions to make your choice easier. Here are our 5 favourites around Lindenhof.
Nockalmstraßse scenic toll road
With a gentle gradient, the panoramic road meanders along 52 bends and many curves up and down between the "Nock'n", with new views at every turn, for example of the largest arolla pine reserve in the eastern Alps, of the rounded and green peaks of the Nockberge and of the extensive meadows.
- TIP: you can also experience the road ambitiously with a road bike - the road bike tour from Feld am See is 105 km and 2150 altitude metres.
lake millstatt boat ride
The 12-kilometre-long and up to 2-kilometre-wide Lake Millstatt at an altitude of 588 metres is the deepest swimming lake with the greatest water volume in Carinthia at a depth of 142 metres. A boat ride across Lake Millstatt opens up new perspectives of the holiday region.
- TIP: use the cycle ferry and combine the boat ride with a cycle trip around the lake.
Pyramidenkogel panoramic viewing tower
The world's highest wooden viewing tower at almost 100 metres is a construction consisting of mighty elliptical wooden supports, which spirals into the sky - an impressive sculpture in the landscape! Although it takes a while to get there, you simply have to experience this building and the view.
- TIP: combine the trip with a stroll around the Klagenfurt old town.
Gmünd town tower gallery
With its unique architecture, the town tower invites you every summer to attend the exhibition of internationally renowned Austrian artists. In recent years, the Gmünd town tower gallery has made a name for itself as an exhibition venue for internationally recognised printed graphics (Kubin, Flora, Janosch, Rizzi, Warhol, Dürer etc.), with increasing numbers of visitors.
- TIP: the little medieval town of Gmünd with its alleys and artists is a gem that you should take time to visit.
Granatium
In the garnet town Radenthein, not far from the centre, you come across metres of garnet in the rockface. Garnet was mined here for years and taken to Bohemian mills for processing, turning into enticingly sparkling Bohemian garnet. Granatium opened its doors in 2008 and is a fascinating world of experience all about the "stone of love and passion".
- TIP: at Millstätter Berg - along the Enzian-Granatsteig trail - you can gather little garnet stones during a walk.
